Some productions are made to be watched.
Others are made to be experienced.
Being part of the Romeo + Juliet production with Backyard Cinema was certainly the latter.
Set against the backdrop of stained-glass windows and candle-lit aisles, Baz Luhrmann’s iconic 1996 film was brought to life in a completely different way with Keynotes Choir performing live renditions of some of the unforgettable songs from the soundtrack.
From Young Hearts and Everybody’s Free to Kissing You and Doves Cry, the choir became part of the story, bringing a new energy and emotion to music that so many people already knew and loved.
There’s something powerful about hearing familiar songs performed live in an unexpected setting. Suddenly, the soundtrack isn’t just accompanying the story; it becomes part of the experience.
For Keynotes, it was a wonderful opportunity to show just how versatile a gospel choir can be.
We’re often booked for weddings, funerals, corporate events and celebrations, but our voices can transform so many different kinds of occasions from theatrical productions and immersive experiences to film screenings, festivals and special events.
That’s the beauty of live choir music.
It can take something familiar and make it feel completely new.
A huge thank you to Dominic, the incredible cast and everyone at Backyard Cinema for inviting us to be part of such a memorable production.
We loved every moment.
